Soca D'Vote At The 4th Annual Dennis Ziadie Cup Soccer Match - April 26th, 2008 - Ft Lauderdale, Florida - Caribbean-America Voter Registration Outreach

Published Apr 7, 2008

Miami, Florida, March 24, 2008 - Soca D’ Vote will hold a Voter Registration Drive from 3: 00 PM until 6:30 PM on Saturday April 26th, 2008 at the 4th Annual Dennis Ziadie Cup Soccer Match. The soccer match will be played at the Silver Shores Park, in Miramar.. The Silver Shores Park is located at 15700 Pembroke Road in Miramar (Southeast corner of Dykes Road and Pembroke Road). Soca D'Vote, a non-partisan grassroots campaign endeavors to encourage voter education and participation among Caribbean-Americans.

“Our goal is to inspire and elevate voter participation by reaching out Caribbean Americans who care about their communities and their country. Soca D’ Vote is a completely unique approach to voter outreach, in that there has never before been a national, nonpartisan effort to reach Caribbean Americans.” says Brad Hemmings, website manager and director of Soca D’ Vote. “If you care about issues that are affecting America then you owe it to yourself and your country to register to vote and to exercise your right in every election.”

US Citizens who should register to vote include people who:

* Are at least 18 years and not already registered to vote
* Have changed their name, party affiliation or address
* Are college students wishing to vote in Florida

Caribbean-Americans are becoming a greater part of the American fabric through their contributions in academia, sports, culture, business --- and even politics. Although many Caribbean-Americans — estimated at over 4 million citizens in the United States (from around the English, Creole, Spanish and Dutch speaking Caribbean) residing in Florida, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., Georgia, Texas, Illinois, Michigan, Tennessee, and California — are eligible to vote, many do not bother to register or participate in the electoral process.

All Caribbean-American cultural, religious, educational, sports, community, charitable, and media representatives and organizations across the United States are encouraged to remind others to register to vote at http://www.socadvote.com or http://www.socathevote.com.

The 4th Annual soccer match between the Jamaica College Old Boys Association of Florida and the St. George's College Old Boys Association of Florida is in memory of Dennis Ziadie, who coached both schools to Manning Cup victories. This year will mark the 22nd year of the death of Dennis Ziadie in a car crash in Mexico at the 1986 World Cup.
