Published Mar 4, 2008

'TEAM JAMAICA ON THE ROAD TO BEIJING' REGGAE CONCERT

New York, March 4, 2008 - Athletic support organization Team Jamaica Bickle and Reggae music giant VP Records is hosting a press conference to launch 'Team Jamaica on the Road to Beijing,' a large-scale Reggae concert, raising funds to support Jamaican athletes going to the XXIX Olympic Games in Beijing in August. Proceeds from the staging will also go toward supporting Jamaican and Caribbean high school athletes participating in the 114th Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania in April. The press conference will be held on Thursday, March 6th, 2008 at 6:30pm at Ruder Finn in New York City.

"Team Jamaica on the Road to Beijing" to be held at Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts, will feature the top-tier of Reggae's musical ambassadors spanning the past 29 years in VP Records musical legacy. Roots Reggae lioness Etana is among those Reggae artists already confirmed for the event, which is slated for April 20th.

For the past 14 years, Team Jamaica Bickle has provided necessary financial support and services to Jamaican and Caribbean high school athletes participating in the annual Penn Relays track and field competition. Support offered by TJB includes subsidized travel and accommodations, meals, ground transportation, and athletic scholarships to outstanding high school track and field athletes. Past Team Jamaica Bickle alums include Olympic Gold Medalist Veronica Campbell, often dubbed one of the world's fastest women; Olympic Gold Medalist Sherone Simpson; World Championship Silver Medalist Usain "Lightening" Bolt; and Olympian Aileen Bailey, sister of Dancehall legend Capleton.

"This concert is of national significance to Jamaica," states TJB founder Irwine Clare. "Our athletes who have consistently been our torch bearers are in need of our support, not only from the stands, but financially. Kudos to the Reggae fraternity for their support of this historic venture."

"VP Records has teamed up with Team Jamaica Bickle to continue to support talent coming out of Jamaica," states VP Records Promotions Director Rich LaMotte. "VP Records is is calling on our catalog of major Reggae music talent to aid TJB, who in turn will aid Jamaica's major athletic talent."

All funds raised will be donated in the memory of Olympic Gold Medal Track & Field legend Herb McKenley.
