Critically Acclaimed “JAMAICA, FAREWELL” Plays The Enwave Theatre, Harbourfront Centre, January 25-27, 2008, Toronto, Canada

Toronto, January 24, 2008 - Award-winning writer/performer Debra Ehrhardt performs in her poignant autobiographical show, Jamaica, Farewell on Friday, January 25th 8:00 p.m., Saturday, January 26th at 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m and Sunday, January 27th 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Enwave Theatre, Harbourfront Centre.

Set against the Jamaican ‘revolution’ in the 1970s, Jamaica, Farewell is a tale of joy and despair, disappointment and sadness, hope and triumph as it recounts Ehrhardt’s journey from her native Kingston, Jamaica to America.

Ehrhardt re-lives her escape from Jamaica in this critically-acclaimed one-woman show. She details her dangerous adventure and near misses with prison time and death, as well as her relationship with an infatuated American CIA agent who helped her along the way. This production contains adult language and subject matter. L.A. Weekly called it “a terrific story with wit and panache, suspenseful enough for a thriller and deliciously funny.” Time Out NY said Jamaica Farewell was ‘a fantastic performance’ and gave it four stars and critics pick. Directed by Monique Lai, the one woman show will return to Fort Lauderdale for an encore performance, having played in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and New York. Jamaica, Farewell is currently being adapted for the big screen and has been optioned by a New York Producer (SoHo Playhouse) to run Off Broadway beginning February 2008. Previous works include Mango, Mango which received two NAACP awards and Invisible Chairs, which was produced by David Strasberg at the Marilyn Monroe Theater in West Hollywood, Calif. and later was optioned as a situation comedy by FOX. Ehrhardt is a member of the Writer’s Guild of America.
