Ashe Returns ‘Bigger & Better’ To Celebrate Sweet 16th Anniversary, September 29 - October 4, 2009, Kingston

Published Sep 3, 2009

Albeit the challenges experienced in the last 16 years with no permanent home and limited funding, the Ashe Performing Arts Company is ready to add a fresh new dimension to the theatre experience in Jamaica in a Sweet Sixteen – Season of Excellence.

The Season of Excellence which is a celebration of Ashe’s 16th birthday will run from September 29 to October 4, 2009 at the Little Theatre in Kingston, Jamaica. The celebration is for everyone to partake. Families, businessmen and women, students, teachers, religious leaders, NGOs and international donor agencies are all encouraged to come out and celebrate in this boonunoonus occasion.

The Season will feature the vast repertoire of ASHE in entertainment and edutainment and capture the essence of ASHE as a training ground for the maximization of talent and empowerment of people in and through the performing arts.

According to Conroy B Wilson, Executive Artistic Director (EAD), “Ashe’s two original hit musicals, Uptown Downtown – Jamaica to de Worl and Curfew will be staged throughout the season.” Other performances will include Boonoonoonoos & Brawta and Higher Ground.

Ashe boasts successes with more than twenty international awards for excellence in the performing arts and innovation in education (edutainment) for community transformation and social development throughout the Caribbean, Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia.

“We are using this to promote our culture and encourage cultural retention and preservation. Our Season of Excellence is the perfect example of how we can boost Jamaica’s tourism industry through theatre,” Wilson highlighted.

Ashe Sweet Sixteen Season of Excellence is an event for everyone! Everyone to celebrate with us, families should purchase tickets and companies or organisations may provide sponsorship or purchase tickets for the communities they serve in their social intervention programmes so we can continue to promote a sense of national pride and consciousness and sensitise our citizens about national development.
