Kira Cares, Inc. Launches First Annual Fundraiser "Changing the future of Jamaican Children", June 11, 2009, Florida

Kira Cares, Inc. Launches First Annual Fundraiser "Changing the future of Jamaican Children", June 11, 2009, Florida

Kira Cares, Inc. proudly announces their first annual fundraising event—“Changing the Future of Jamaican Children”.  Kira Cares, Inc. is a nonprofit, international organization whose mission is one of empowering children in Jamaica, confined to the limitations of poverty and abuse on the island.

Kira Cares works closely with communities, families, and local institutions and businesses, particularly children’s homes, churches, and medical institutions, to support these at-risk Jamaican children. Kira Cares fosters educational programs and medical initiatives that empower and protect the children in their present life experience while also serving to develop concepts of self worth and a realization of inherent self-value.  Kira Cares fortifies Jamaican children with applicable tools that will allow them to achieve a better quality of life, break the cycle of disenfranchisement, and engage society on more equal terms when they become adults.

The “Changing the Future of Jamaican Children” event will aid the launching of a photojournalism project, “Through the Eyes of a Child”.  This will be an island-wide project that delivers to at-risk children the impressive ability to document, catalog, and most importantly, share with others their daily life experiences in Jamaica through digital photography. Trained by professional photographers and exposed to the art of photography, each child will be given his/her own digital camera to begin capturing the images in his/her surroundings that define his/her existence. Upon completion, the photographs will be edited and produced into books and postcards that will be made available to the public for purchase. The proceeds from the sale of these books will be used to help defray the educational expenses of the children, further instilling in them their ability to achieve self-sufficiency.

“Changing the Future of Jamaican Children” will take place on June 11, 2009 at 7pm at the Newport Beachside Hotel in Sunny Isles, Florida. Kira Cares will engage participants in an evening of networking and education about the organization’s mission and purpose, while enjoying dinner with several featured and distinguished guests, including State Representative Oscar Braynon, II (former vice mayor of Miami Gardens), who will be the featured guest speaker of the evening. This event is open to the general public and a $40 donation per person is suggested. Donations can also be made online at www.kiracares.org. Individuals and organizations interested in supporting initiatives like “Through the Eyes of a Child” can also learn more information about Kira Cares and their ongoing projects online.

Kira Cares Inc.’s efforts to aid the children of Jamaica have attracted the attention of several organizations that cater to the West Indian community. “Changing the Future of Jamaican Children” will be sponsored and supported by I&I clothing company, The Jamaican Diaspora, Nex Creative, Absolute Adventure, and The Negril Education and Environment Trust.
