Maxine J. Tulloch welcomed Caribbean American journalists, broadcasters, and other media colleagues who came out to celebrate and acknowledge the official installation of officers. The event took place at the American Inter-Continental University (AIU) in Weston, Florida.

Radio personality Rodney Baltimore of Hot 105 FM and Michael Aitcheson of WAVS 1170 AM acted as co-Masters of Ceremonies for the evening.

Director of Student Affairs at AIU, Marion Carberry welcomed CAJMA and expressed delight at the formation of the Association. Ms. Carberry also extended an open invitation to the association to collaborate with the institution to present seminars, workshops, and other educational opportunities for the benefit of journalism/media students.

CAMJA Strategist & Logistics Director Ian Hamilton, addressed the audience, bringing them up-to-date about the association’s progress. He also stressed the importance of becoming knowledgeable about the advertising and marketing industries; building a media force that is deemed as credible as mainstream media; the critical nature of a strong communication network; and working together as a cohesive unit in order to capture and maintain a larger share of advertising dollars.

The keynote speaker for the evening, Miramar City Commissioner Barbara Sherief, lauded CAJMA for taking the first step to becoming a major voice for Caribbean media and underscored her support for the association. Ms. Sherief then officiated the swearing-in process, taking each officer through the pledge of office.

The evening ended with words of wisdom and encouragement from the association’s Treasurer Peter Webley. The publisher of Caribbean Today newspaper for more than 20 years, Webley encouraged all media partners to work together and advised all to “leave the egos at the door” if we want to be a strong and legitimate voice for Caribbean media.
