IRIE Jamboree Jamaica Launch Party, August 18, 2009, New Kingston

Published Aug 15, 2009

North America's most anticipated annual Reggae festival will once again traveling to Jamaica to celebrate 'the History of Reggae Music' at New Kingston's The Building (formerly Asylum Night Club). Irie Jam Media and Black Emperor Entertainment are hosting an exclusive Irie Jamboree 2009 Launch Party on Tuesday, August 18th in The Building at 9pm. Irie Jam and Black Emperor will be heading to Jamaica with newest edition to the Irie Jam Radio (93.5FM WVIP  NY) family, DJ Nikki Z --formerly of Jamaica's ZIP 103 FM and Hype TV-to host the celebrity-studded event.

After a successful launch at New York City's swanky Club TOUCH with Dancehall deejay Assassin, Roots empress Etana, and soulful Reggae singer Gramps Morgan earlier this month, Irie Jamboree 2009 heads to the island for its official Jamaica launch, touting an extensive list of Irie Jamboree performers and Jamaican music industry tastemakers as special guests.

Now in its seventh year, Irie Jamboree has earned an international reputation for being the 'premiere' Reggae festival in North America. The multi-nominated festival is a three-time 'Concert of the Year' International Reggae and World Music Award (IRAWMA) winner. Slated for York College's outdoor complex on September 6th, Jamboree boasts a line-up that includes classic Reggae masters, the vintage Dub and Dancehall Rockers, Roots Reggae's steadfast soldiers, and Dancehall's biggest international giants. The show also features Reggae and Dancehall's latest up and coming hit makers, as well as imports from Canada's bubbling Reggae scene. Irie Jamboree 2009 will also pay homage to a host of Reggae legends for their outstanding contributions to the Reggae industry.

"For our 2009 staging, we are celebrating the 'History of Reggae Music,' it is only fitting that we will once again return to the root of Reggae-Jamaica-to launch Irie Jamboree," states Irie Jamboree Executive Team Member Louie Grant. "We have artists, musicians, and industry VIPs from all decades and genres celebrating with us at The Building on the 18th."
