The Jamaica Reggae Industry Association Unveils List Of Events For Reggae Month 2013, February 3, 2013

Reggae Month 2013 under the theme “Reggae 50:A New Dawn” is set to commence with a celebratory Ecumenical Service on Sunday February 3, 2013 beginning at 12:00 pm. at the Music School Auditorium at the Edna Manley College. The tribute to Dennis Brown on King Street later in the evening will close off a full day of activities which includes the first in the Jamaica Music Museum lecture series “Grounation” at 4:00 pm at the Institute of Jamaica, East Street.

The signature Reggae Wednesdays will remain a special feature of the month and will be held every Wednesday in February for the month at Emancipation Park. As is customary, Reggae Wednesdays will be themed and will celebrate the different genres of Reggae for four weeks beginning with a tribute to Marley entitled “from Mento to Marley” which will showcase Bob Marley’s music by various artistes. The concerts will be free to the public and starts at 7:00 pm each week. The JaRIA Honour awards will also take place at the Emancipation Park honouring stalwarts in the industry in a red carpet styled event. In addition, there will be symposia, workshops done in an open air style at what is dubbed “Reggae University”.

Reggae Month was officially declared by Sir Kenneth Hall, former Governor General of Jamaica on January 24, 2008 and is produced by the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) in partnership with the Jamaica Tourist Board and the CHASE fund. Reggae Month is also sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Culture, Edna Manley College, RJR Communications Group, IRIE FM, Zip FM, V.P. Records, Wisynco, Grizzlys, Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Council, NHT/Emancipation Park, Culcha Clothing from Sun Island and the Association of Reggae SunSka (ARSS), France.
