Obeah is more than "a brand of witchcraft practiced in Jamaica". When Africans were taken from Africa to slavery in the Caribbean, they brought lots of things with them, including religion. When Christianity/Catholicism was being pushed on them they rebelled by incorporating aspects of their own African religions that they already had with the Catholicism that was thrust on them. The result was obeah.
