We asked our facebook fans to help answer a question submitted to us by email:  Help Answer a question traveler to Jamaica submitted to us: I am going to Kingston to work for 2 weeks. I will be off on the weekends and want to have some fun. I like nature, whether it's beaches, lakes or the forest.  It should be reasonably easy reach as I don’t want to spend the whole time traveling on the roads. What would you recommend?

RESPONSES:

A. Basinger - Fly over to Negril in local plane.

D. Graham - Visit Port Royal

A. Lodge – Visit Hope Garden , Devon house , mineral bath ,

W. Greenwood  - Go to Portland, easy access to pretty much anywhere from there and you won't get hassled as much as Mobay, Negril, or Ochi because it's not as well-known as a tourist destination. The beaches are great, the people are friendly, and there's LOTS to do. People go to a resort in Mobay and never leave the complex, that's NOT Jamaica. You may as well go somewhere else if that's what you want to do, in my opinion.

M. McLeod - Lyme on the Fort Clarence Beach...eat fish and festival and enjoy the cool, refreshing air in Hellshire.

N. Hall - Lovers leap

N. Thompson - Cayman Park for the horse races !!

S. Imonea - Mi say Portland all the way lovely beaches!!!

Definitely would recommend Portland - it's not too far from Kingston. You can visit: i. Bath Fountain in St. Thomas - great place to meditate and get a wonderful massage ii. Reich Falls in St. Thomas - they filmed the Tom Cruise movie "Cocktail" there iii. Boston Beach for jerk everything iii Monkey Island in Portland, you can walk from the mainland through the breakers to the island during low tide. iv. Winnifred Beach - one of the last best public beaches in Jamaica. v. Port Antonia - quaint old seaside town.
